Episode 148: Making Comic Life Templates

John Hendron shows teachers how to create a "template" for a Comic Life project combining an empty ComicLife document with pre-selected pictures into a single zip file. The zip file can be shared any number of ways, from uploading into Moodle or a teacher blog, or by sharing it over the network with students.

Plasq has made an incredible creation package called Comic Life which we've been using since around 2006 in Goochland County Schools. Yet, we still haven't converted all classrooms yet into comic strip studios... this video by John Hendron will introduce teachers to the software and is designed as a resource for our after school workshop centered on Comic Life projects.

John demonstrates the use of the picoboard and how it's used on his Mac with Scratch from MIT. The picoboard is a collection of hardware sensors that connect to your computer via USB. The picoboard is used to add sensor input to projects created with Scratch. The picoboard is $50; the Scratch software is free.

Called "My Access," this software from Vantage Learning is a web-based solution for evaluating students' writing skills. With help from the CVC consortium, a Richmond, VA-area consortium of school divisions dedicated to increasing student performance through technology with a federal ed-tech grant, Goochland Middle School this year will be using My Access with all GMS students through English classes.
