SURREY – Representatives from the Province and Fraser Health celebrated the official groundbreaking of Rosemary Heights Seniors Village, a new 151-unit campus of care in Surrey, scheduled to be completed in February 2008.

VANCOUVER – The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre will receive one-time funding of $80,000 to continue providing overnight shelter for women who need it most, particularly during this winter season, Minister responsible for Housing Rich Coleman announced.

FORT ST. JAMES – Residents have settled into their new homes at Pioneer Lodge, a two-unit assisted living development for seniors in Fort St. James.

COQUITLAM – At the opening of 60 new assisted living units at the Belvedere in Coquitlam, Health Minister George Abbott announced the Province has surpassed 2,500 net-new residential care beds, assisted living units and supportive housing units as part of the government’s commitment for 5,000 new beds and units by the end of 2008.

VANCOUVER – The Pennsylvania Hotel, a 44-unit housing development in the Downtown Eastside for those at risk of homelessness, will receive $2.4 million from the Province for renovations, Rich Coleman, Minister responsible for Housing, announced today.

BURNABY – The official celebration of construction for a pilot project that will provide 20 units of assisted living for young adults with disabilities took place in Burnaby with representatives of the Province, Fraser Health and the Howe Sound Rehabilitation Services Society on hand.

FERNIE – Federal, provincial, community and non-profit partners gathered in Fernie to celebrate the opening of Fernie Family Housing Society’s Tom Uphill Manor, a 27-unit supportive living development for seniors and people with disabilities.

LANGLEY – N.G. Nair Place, a new 25-bed residential facility designed for individuals with complex physical and mental health needs, opened in Langley today. The new facility offers different levels of medical care in an environmentally friendly, energy-efficient building design.

VICTORIA – The Out of the Rain youth shelter service, which provides up to 30 emergency shelter beds for youth aged 15-25, has received a $32,100 grant from the Province.

KELOWNA – Mountainview Village, a new $10.7-million assisted living development for low-income seniors and individuals living with disabilities, celebrated the opening of Phase II today with federal, provincial and community funding partners.

CHILLIWACK – Topaz Place, a new 12-bed residential facility designed to meet the changing physical and mental health needs of aging residents, opened in Chilliwack today, with both adaptive levels of medical care and an environmentally friendly building design.

WHITE ROCK - Evergreen Heights, a new 86-unit $17.5-million development for low-income seniors, officially opened its doors in White Rock today with federal, provincial and community funding partners.

QUEEN CHARLOTTE – Three previously vacant homes have been renovated and are now open to low-income families in the Village of Queen Charlotte, thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Province.

TUMBLER RIDGE – The Province has acquired Chamberlain Place, a housing development in the District of Tumbler Ridge, for $1 million, to be managed as part of BC Housing’s public housing stock.

VANCOUVER – A new $20-million assisted living development for Vancouver seniors and young adults with disabilities was celebrated today with a groundbreaking attended by federal, provincial and municipal government representatives.

MISSION – Federal, provincial and community funding partners gathered today to celebrate the opening of The Cedars, a new 58-unit assisted living facility in Mission – a first for the community.
